  1. The city's government is being scrutinized for its reported "lack of transparency" regarding a $250,000 payment that was made to a consulting firm without advising or seeking input from the public. Roswell City government is also facing backlash for not stating what services the consulting firm would provide. The contract was made with a firm called Seer World. Critics say this subject was not brought up during public meetings, and that information regarding the payment to this firm was not "fully disclosed" when the Roswell City Council approved the proposal last month. Mayor Kurt Wilson defended the city's choice to not make the Seer contract public information, "because the company is advising on potential real estate acquisitions." Seer World was hired by City attorney David Davison. (Newbreak)
  2. A 63-year-old Roswell woman was arrested for DUI in Alpharetta on Sept. 11. The woman was reported to have caused an accident by rear-ending another car on Haynes Bridge Road. Alpharetta police were called to the crash site, and noticed that the woman could not maintain her balance when she was asked to exit her vehicle. The suspect subsequently failed numerous field sobriety tests. She is now facing charges of misdemeanor DUI alcohol and following too closely. She was taken to the hospital for treatment and was then transported to the North Fulton County Jail. (Appen Media)
  3. A group of students from Centennial High School are working to bring awareness to, and change the conversation around mental health. One of the students decided that a safe space was needed at the high school after her own battles with mental health. She, along with several other students, formed the Active Minds Club. The group's goal is to let other students know that it's "okay to say that you're not okay." They hope that by initiating a mental health conversation on a high school level, that they can help erase the stigma around mental health. They also are helping other students access community and state resources that help improve mental health. (11 Alive)
  4. James “Moby” Carney, a long-time Roswell resident and a former country music radio host, has passed away. In the 1990s, Carney was a widely popular radio host on Atlanta's country station Kicks 101.5. He also worked for the rock station Z93. During his career, he was inducted into the Country Radio Hall of Fame and the Georgia Radio Hall of Fame. Carney retired from radio in 2016. He passed away after being hospitalized with stage 4 stomach cancer. (Newsbreak)
