Here are the top stories in Roswell today:

  1. The newest Eagle Scouts, from the Northern Ridge Boy Scout District, completed their Eagle Board of Review on May 25. This district is encompassed by troops from the cities of Roswell, Alpharetta, John's Creek, and Milton. Two of Roswell's very own Eagle Scouts completed a required construction project and were included in this group. Ian Fox from Troop 356 was sponsored by Fellowship Christian School. Fox built a picnic table and a sunshade sail for the lunch area at King's Academy High School. Jason Lampert is a member of Troop 1486; he was sponsored by North River Baptist Church. Lampert's project consisted of designing and constructing two picnic tables for the church. Fellow scouts and the city congratulate these young men for this achievement. (Appen Media)
  2. A section of the Chattahoochee River reopened for public use on Monday, July 9. Officials have cleared the section of the river from Powers Island to the downstream areas of the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area for recreational use again. The portion of the river from the Chattahoochee Nature Center to Powers Island will remain closed. On July 6, a representative from the Fulton County Public Works Department reported that 5 out of the 7 areas of the river that they are focusing their efforts on, have shown signs of improvement. A date as to when the remaining sections of the river will open was not given at this time. (WSB-TV)
  3. There are several author talks and book events going on in North Fulton and surrounding areas this month. Authors George Weinstein and Kim Conrey will be in nearby Milton on July 22, to discuss some of their previous works such as “Hardscrabble Road” and the sequel, “Return to Hardscrabble Road,” as well as some of their latest works. The pair will also be at Brimstone Restaurant & Tavern on Old Alabama Road on July 25. The Friends of the Roswell Library will also sponsor a book event this month. The group will hold their “Mid-Summer Sale” from Friday, July 28 through Monday, July 31. (Appen Media)
