Here are the top stories in Roswell today:

  1. On May 17, a Roswell man reported to police that tires and rims valued at $3,200 were taken off of his parked car on Old Holcomb Bridge Way. He told police that his car had been parked and idle since the morning of May 12, and that by the afternoon of May 17, the parts were stolen off of his vehicle. His father had checked on the car earlier that day on May 17 and the tires and rims were still on the car. When he came to check on his vehicle, the car was bolstered up by flat log discs. The lug nuts were scattered on the ground nearby. Police did not recover any fingerprints from the vehicle in their investigation. (Appen Media)
  2. Rick McDermott, the owner of the Roswell-based company Aqua Blue Pools, has been arrested and charged with conversion of payments for real property improvements. Aqua blue Pools has recently been in the news for not completing projects for homeowners in North Fulton and Decatur after being paid. These homeowners were told by police in multiple jurisdictions that these cases were civil and not criminal. In early May, the owner told media sources that he was filing for bankruptcy and shut down his business. However, one client insisted that the company's acts were theft. The arrest warrant states that McDermott received $12,000 from a client to complete a pool project but instead, he used the payment "to fund other projects." In a text conversation with the said client, McDermott responded to the client stating, "Your money went into the aqua blue acct and went to jobs." The failed business owner was arrested in response and is being investigated for co-mingling funds. (Fox 5 Atlanta)
  3. A tribute event that honored 25 North Fulton nonprofit groups for their service to the community took place at the Chattahoochee Nature Center in Roswell on May 24. This special acknowledgement came after the Fulton County Board of Commissioners voted at a May 17 meeting to approve over $7 million in grant funding for non-profit groups. Nonprofits like the Chattahoochee Nature Center and North Fulton Community Charities will benefit from these funds. Other nonprofits such as the STAR House Foundation, The Drake House, and the North Fulton Child Development Association were also honored at the event. In reference to the many nonprofits that provide services to Roswell and North Fulton, Pamela Roshell, the chief operating officer of Fulton County’s Department of Health, Human Services, and Public Works department said that “These programs are so important because they are a key ingredient when we look at the social determinants of health, all of those nonmedical conditions that actually impact health outcomes.” District 2 Commissioner Bob Ellis spoke at the event and expressed the importance of nonprofits and their role in helping Fulton County function proficiently.
