Here are the top stories in Roswell today:

  1. Best friends Al Anderson and Leigh Braglia have transformed their common love for champagne into a bubbling champagne bar. Pop Alleigh opened this past December on Canton Street and soon became a popular venue in Roswell. The establishment is unique as it's Metro Atlanta’s only champagne bar. Every bottle that is served is handpicked by the owners. “Our approach is to be able to offer a high-end experience,” Anderson said. The business is steadily growing, and is now open on Mondays and Tuesdays and has extended hours on the weekends. (appenmedia.com)
  2. The most recent Mayor and City Council meeting was this past Monday, May 8 at City Hall. There were three important actions that were approved by the council. One of these actions was the approval to convert two existing private streets to public roads in the Ashley Manor subdivision. The City of Roswell will obtain ownership of these roads and will be responsible for their future maintenance. A text amendment to the Unified Development Code (UDC) regarding screening walls and fences and a condemnation settlement for 50 Maple Street was also approved unanimously by the council. The council voted to participate in the National Opioid Settlement. The mayor and council also took a moment to acknowledge Roswell Water Utility for their receipt of the Georgia Association of Water Professionals (GAWP) Water Treatment Plant of the Year award. The complete agenda for this meeting as well as a copy of the minutes can be found on the City of Roswell's website. (roswellgov.com)
  3. Over $500,000 in roadway funds was recently approved and will be allotted to the safety improvements and for the replacement of the Norcross Street bridge. From grant money received from the National Safe Streets and Roads for All program, street improvements and a safety action plan will be developed. Local transportation sales tax money will be used to hire the an on-call consultant, Barge Design Solutions, to design and replace the bridge on Norcross Street over Hog Wallow Creek. The current bridge was built in 1951, and received a grade of "fair" on GDOT's last bridge assessment in 2021. (appenmedia.com)
