Here are the top stories today in Roswell:
- Sometime over the weekend of May 20, drugstore skin and facial products valued at more than $1,000 were stolen from the CVS on Crabapple Road. Store employees noticed the theft after taking inventory and reported the theft to Roswell police on Monday, May 22. The store's manager told responding officers that the CVS on Alpharetta Highway was missing similar inventory. These cases are being investigated and security footage is being reviewed. (Appen Media)
- A smartphone overheated and caught fire at a Roswell home on Wednesday morning. The Fire Department responded to the call a little before 9 a.m. By the time firefighters arrived, the fire was already extinguished and the phone was moved to the sink. No one was injured in the incident. Roswell Fire Chief Joe Pennino released a caution to residents and owners of electronic devices, advising them "Electronic devices, including smartphones, contain lithium-ion batteries that store significant energy and generate heat during use." Electronic devices are at a grater risk of catching fire if they are placed on surfaces that are flammable and have limited ventilation. (Fox 5 Atlanta)
- On May 21, witnesses to a public mele told police that a gun was fired after 30 people were fighting on Alpharetta Street. The crowd was engaged in a disagreement outside an event hall when a man drove up in a white truck. Witnesses told police that the man got out his truck with a gun and fired a shot into the ground. The individual got back into his vehicle and left. This case is still being investigated by the Roswell Police Department. (Appen Media)
