  1. A special election for the unexpired term of the Post 4 seat that was vacated by Peter Vanstrom has been approved by the City Council. With two years remaining in his term, Vanstrom issued his resignation on July 27. In addition to Vanstrom's Post 4 seat, there are three other seats on the council that will be open during the upcoming election. The special election will also take place on Nov. 7, and will be on the same ballot as the city's municipal election. Residents who are interested in running for a seat on the council, must do so during the qualifying period of Aug. 21 through Aug. 25. (Newsbreak)
  2. The "ArtAround: Pathways" outdoor collective exhibit is currently open for viewing at the Don White Memorial Park until Sept. 30. The work and ideas of many artists, performers, musicians, etc. are conjointly displayed in this unique exposition. One of the performers is Jose Chirinos, a Venezuelan musician who taught himself to play traditional Venezuelan percussion instruments. Chirinos also plays flamenco guitar and has worked with and arranged music for flamenco dance academies in his hometown. He emigrated to Atlanta in 2018, where he continues to bring "art and culture to the people and communities through the guitar." Chirinos' next performance will be on Sept. 20, at Don White Park by the River. (Instagram)
  3. On July 17, a woman from Roswell reported that an individual had gained access to her online credit account and made over $20,000 in charges. She was not aware of the fraudulent activity until her card was declined; she was then notified of two withdrawals that totaled $18,600. The alleged thief also reported the victim’s debit card missing in order to obtain a new card. Three purchases that totaled more than $2,000 were made with the new card. The victim is uncertain of how someone obtained the identifying documentation needed to request a new debit card. (Appen Media)
