This first-ever event benefiting the Max Gruver Foundation will be held at Blessed Trinity High School.

ROSWELL, GA — The organization created by a Roswell family whose son died following an apparent hazing ritual at Louisiana State University will host its first-ever race to help stop this dangerous practice.

East Baton Rouge Parish Coroner Dr. William "Beau" Clark said the student's showed Gruver suffered "marked cerebral and pulmonary edema," or swelling, and blood and urine tests conducted at the hospital show "highly elevated blood alcohol level" and the presence of THC in the student's urine.

Early packet pickup for the race will be from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Feb. 1 at Johnny's Pizza at 550 West Crossville Road.

"Max lived his life full of laughter and bringing a smile to those around him," the foundation said. "The Max Gruver Foundation is fighting to raise awareness of the dangers of hazing, to teach the importance of looking out for each other, and to step in when a situation appears to be getting out of control."
