Here are the top stories in Roswell today:

  1. A Roswell woman reported to police that she was attacked and stabbed at random as she was walking through her neighborhood to her home. The report states that the victim was walking through a breezeway in her complex, when a man ran up to her and grabbed her. She was pushed into a wall then stabbed with a sharp object. The responding officers did note a small laceration on the woman's stomach. The nerve-rattling incident occurred on Raintree Drive on May 6, and is still under investigation. (Appen Media)
  2. The decision to close Canton Street to cars from Memorial Day through Labor Day has been officially delayed. The decision was made at the second meeting between the city, business owners, and stakeholders on Friday, May 19. It was decided to create a "Canton Street Promenade Taskforce" that includes, city leaders, proprietors, and stakeholders to create and execute the plan. The stakeholders had several points that the city was to address before they decided to be completely on-board with the project. The formal vote to create the taskforce will come at the next council meeting on May 23. (Fox 5 Atlanta)
  3. An unauthorized walking trail at the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area was closed by the city after a fatal incident that occurred last month. A woman was walking with her dogs on a trail that ran alongside Vickery Creek. She, however, ventured near a pathless section of cliffs and fell. The woman and her dogs appeared to have fallen 15-20 feet according to park rangers. The woman nor the pets survived. The decision to close the trail was made after a meeting between Georgia Government Fire and Rescue and the City of Roswell. (Newsbreak)
  4. A Jordan family in Roswell is sharing how a newly passed piece of legislation regarding medical care for transgender minors is affecting their family of seven. The new legislation, which was co-sponsored by Senator John Albers (Roswell), prohibits medical procedures such as reassignment surgeries and hormone replacement therapies for transgender minors. Two out of five of the Jordan children are transgender. The family is not happy with Sen. Alber's decision to co-sponsor the law and fear how this ruling will harm, not only their children, but all transgender youth. Although they understand the reasons behind the new law, the Jordans are sharing their children's transition stories to help bring awareness to how this new bill can adversely affect transgender minors.
