- In an effort to stay ahead of anticipated demand growth, the Georgia Ports Authority (GPA) is expanding chilled cargo capacity at the Port of Savannah. During the GPA's Jan. 31 meeting, board members approved a $6.2 million project to build an additional seven refrigerated container racks. Savannah's private chilled/frozen warehouse space is expected to increase by 11 percent this calendar year — reaching over 2.2 million square feet. (All On Georgia)
- Alderman Kurtis Purtee has announced his intent to run for re-election. Purtee, who has also served on the Savannah City Council for three years, will run to maintain his post representing District 6. If he wins re-election, the alderman hopes to "preserve [Savannah's] past while looking for solid opportunities to create civic enhancements." (WSAV-TV)
- A Thomas Square restaurant owner met with city officials after his business was burglarized twice just days apart. Tyler Kopkas, who owns Ardsley Station, asked for increased police patrols after the incidents that reportedly cost the restaurant up to $5,000. Kopkas hopes to bring together other Savannah business owners to address ongoing homelessness and crime in the city, saying that "as a group, we're only stronger together." (WTOC)
