Here are the top three stories today in Savannah:
- Hyundai Motor America partnered with Georgia Southern University (GSU) and the Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Coastal Empire and donated $15,000 each to the nonprofits. Hyundai says it is firmly committed to Georgia, especially with its new Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America facility being built in Bryan County. GSU will use its grant to provide scholarships to undergraduate students in the science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) fields. The other donation to the Ronald McDonald House is part of Hyundai’s initiative, Hyundai Hope, which seeks to uplift children and families through supporting various health programs and will provide housing to young hospital patients and their families. - A new alcoholic beverage revision will be reviewed at the next Savannah City Council meeting. The city proposed a "Bar Card" for Savannah servers and waitresses, which they would carry in restaurants to notify people that they have received the proper certification and are of legal age to serve alcoholic beverages. The next council meeting will be held Tuesday, Feb. 7 at 2:00 p.m. at City Hall in Council Chambers. (WJCL News Savannah)
- Promised Land and Hester Farms, well-known farmers in Port Wentworth, have been stressing a rezone of its land back in October. Residents and a contractor in Port Wentworth are supporting the rezone, with more than one resident requesting their property be changed from residential architectural to industrial. The zoning change would be the only way residents receive a return on their investment. (WTOC)
