  1. On Wednesday, May 10, the Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America is set to build their EV and battery plant in Bryan County that will employ over 8,000 local workers. The South Korean automaker and Savannah's Trade School also signed a memorandum of understanding to offer an Electric Vehicle Professional certificate program in preparation for the plant. Hyundai's Metaplant is expected to hire around 200 people in January and the certification program will be offered at multiple Savannah Tech locations, including a campus in Liberty County.   2. According to officials, a Savannah woman was hospitalized following an accident involving a dump truck on Highway 1. The crash happened on Wednesday, May 10 around 3:15 p.m. and a dump truck ended up striking the side of a SUV. The 50-year-old female driver was trapped in the SUV, but the three children in the back, including a baby, were unharmed. (WJCL)
  3. The federal government is helping to combat homelessness by providing the Chatham Savannah Authority for the Homeless with a $3.5 million grant. The funding is a part of the Continuum of Care competition, under the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, and hopes to free Savannah of involuntary homelessness in the near future. Executive Director Jennifer Darcey Dulong says this initiative was made possible due to multiple partners working to combat homelessness. (WJCL)

  • On Tuesday, May 16, the Savannah College of Art and Design will have a special screening of the new sports drama "Air" at the Trustees Theater. The screening will begin around 7:00 p.m. and will be followed by a conversation with two leaders in the sneaker design industry, moderated by Michael Mack, a professor from SCAD's sneaker design program. Tickets are free for all SCAD card holders, $5 for students, seniors, and the military, and $10 for the general public. (Savannah College of Art and Design)
  • The National Museum of the Mighty Eighth Air Force is planning to honor the ultimate sacrifice with its second annual Remembering the Fallen: 26,000 flags. The flag display will pay tribute to the young men of the Eighth, as well as the heroes who had their lives taken away from 1941 to 1945. Volunteers from across the city will gather before Memorial Day to place 26,000 flags in the museum's Memorial Garden and from Friday, May 26 to Monday, May 29, the display will be available for the public to see.   • Join the Savannah African Art Museum as they host world-renowned jazz trombonist Teddy Adams and his sextet of local artists on Saturday, May 20. During the free event, guests will have the opportunity to partake in a self-guided tour of the West African exhibit in the museum. (Savannah Business Journal)
