📰 News we're reading

1. Healthy Savannah Donates Breastfeeding Resource Books to Libraries (savannahtribune.com) — Savannah families who are pregnant or breastfeeding can now access 75 free copies of “The Art of Breastfeeding” through Live Oak Public Libraries and local partner organizations. Funded by a La Leche League mini-grant, Healthy Savannah delivered dozens of books to the Bull Street library branch and will share more at upcoming events, offering practical guidance on nutrition, returning to work, and emotional support.

2. Port of Savannah - nation's busiest for cotton shipments (ajot.com) — Savannah’s port now handles 37% of all U.S. cotton exports, making it the nation’s busiest hub for the crop. Strong rail links and frequent ship service to the Indian subcontinent and Mediterranean are turning Garden City Terminal into a critical gateway for Georgia and Midsouth cotton growers competing in global markets.

3. Leadership, Advocacy, and Growth Take Center Stage at Savannah Chamber's 219th Annual Meeting (savannahchamber.com) — Savannah’s business community just wrapped up the Chamber’s 219th Annual Meeting, spotlighting major advocacy wins, SPLOST 8 infrastructure funding, and a new local policy agenda. Leaders highlighted regional job fairs, small-business support, and record membership growth, while passing board leadership to Georgia Ports’ Jamie McCurry to guide the Chamber’s next phase of economic and workforce initiatives in Savannah.

4. Red Kettle donations down, Salvation Army Savannah Corps needs help (wtoc.com) — Salvation Army’s Savannah Corps is warning that Red Kettle donations are well behind their $125,000 goal, even as more local families seek shelter, rent help, and food assistance. With all funds staying in the Coastal Empire, the group is urgently asking Savannah residents for volunteers and contributions before the campaign ends on Christmas Eve.

5. Coalition drops concrete pyramids in Georgia marsh to build reefs (savannahnow.com) — New artificial reefs are being built just off Savannah in Wassaw Sound, using surplus concrete from local operations to boost fish habitat and oyster growth. State biologists and conservation groups say the Romerly Marsh Creek reef will support popular sport fish, improve water quality, and draw more anglers to coastal Georgia, adding both ecological and economic benefits.
