Aggravated Assault Suspect Who Escaped Police Custody Captured, GA Police Say (patch.com) — Savannah-area readers should know that a 39-year-old aggravated assault suspect who escaped from a Chatham County patrol car Monday night after spraying a chemical irritant at an officer has been captured near Southern Boulevard. Authorities say he initially fled while handcuffed from the Chatham Parkway and Police Memorial Drive area, prompting a multi-hour manhunt, and now faces additional charges and transport to the Chatham County Detention Center.

GoFundMe launched to help family after fatal shooting in Savannah (wjcl.com) — Savannah residents are rallying around the family of 24-year-old John Oliver, who was fatally shot Sunday evening near the Frazier Homes area on W. Gwinnett Street. A GoFundMe is helping cover funeral costs as his grieving mother and twin sister share tributes, while Chatham County Sheriff Richard Coleman urges the shooter to surrender and pledges to find them.

Friends and family have created a growing memorial at Ferguson and Glade and are calling for better lighting, sidewalks, and bike lanes to prevent another tragedy.
