Here are the top three stories in Savannah today:
- The Coaches for Curing Cancer race returned to Savannah for its fifth year last Saturday. The annual race is meant to raise funds for battling and researching childhood cancer. Runners had the opportunity to race in either a 5K or a 10K format. (fox28media.com)
- Savannah Backpack Mission, a group that provides backpacks for children participating in summer camps, is now a certified nonprofit organization. The nonprofit has raised over $8,000 to purchase the backpacks and accompanying re-useable water bottles. The city's newest sports team, the Savannah Ghost Pirates, is joining the nonprofit in distributing the backpacks to eight different summer camps this season. (WSAV-TV)
- Community members gathered on Saturday for National Gun Violence Awareness Month. Participants gathered at Savannah's First Baptist Church. The focus of the event was to raise support for getting laws passed that would prevent gun violence while providing a space for healing. (WJCL News Savannah)
