  1. The Savannah City Council election is taking place this year — and all nine seats are up for grabs. Three candidates have declared their candidacies so far, including incumbents Mayor Van Johnson and current At-Large Post 1 Alderwoman Kesha Gibson-Carter. Newcomer Patrick Rossiter, son of former At Large Post 2 Council Frank P. Rossiter Sr., recently announced his intent to run as a challenger. The non-partisan municipal election will be held on Nov. 7 with no primary. (Savannah Morning News)
  2. On Saturday, the Savannah African Arts Museum and Bull Street Library hosted the Savannah Black Heritage Festival, which aimed to help people of African descent trace their roots. Lisa Jackson, who led the workshop, said the knowledge gained from tracing one's roots is empowering and that librarians in the Genealogy and History Department at the library can help anytime. People interested in learning more about their history can get started by visiting the library. (WSAV-TV)
  3. The Chatham County Police Department's Marine Patrol Dive Team helped recover a submerged car from a pond on Al Henderson Boulevard on Saturday. The driver, who escaped the car unharmed, told police she had driven into the pond while using a GPS in an unfamiliar area and turned as instructed in the dark. The dive team hooked up the car for towing later in the day when the sun was out. This was the second car recovery by CCPD in less than 24 hours. (WJCL News Savannah)
