Here are the top three stories today in Savannah:
- The Savannah VOICE Festival has officially begun. The festival, now in its 10th season, will celebrate with opera, musical theater, and songs. The Savannah VOICE Festival runs through Aug. 21. Click for the full lineup. (WTOC)
- The Savannah Fire Department has recovered a body from the Savannah River. The unidentified individual went into the water on Sunday evening in the 100 block of West River Street. The rescue effort involved the Savannah Fire Marine 1, the U.S. Coast Guard, Chatham Emergency Services, and the Savannah Police Department. (WJCL News Savannah)
- The Port of Savannah is on track to beat last year's record cargo amount. According to projections, the port will move more than six million 20-foot units. Last year, the port moved 5.6 million. The port has seen significant growth due to cargo being diverted from the U.S. West Coast. (Christian Index)
