- SCAD students completed a 10-day playground mural project on Whitemarsh Island, which is now fully painted. With the Paint Our Parks program, a total of 100 students, faculty, and staff finished the 10-day project Wednesday. One of the project students said, “I researched the first two American tribes in the state of Georgia...Cherokee and Creek. So I thought, you know, it’s always nice to pay homage to the native indigenous people who are here." (WTOC)
- The Savannah Police Department and WTOC11 are partnering for a toy drive event this Friday. Between 9:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m., donations can be dropped off at the Five Below on Abercorn Street. Donations should be new, unwrapped toys for children in need to enjoy. (WTOC)
- The Savannah Downtown Business Association is looking for artists through its inaugural Savannah To-Go Cup program. Anyone in Chatham County can submit until May 11 to have their artwork displayed on 50,000 aluminum to-go cups. The winning artist will also receive a thousand-dollar cash prize. - A 10-week-old Labrador puppy named Goose begins training this week as Savannah Police Department’s first therapy dog. Goose has been assigned to handler Cpl. Julie Cavanaugh of the Behavioral Health Unit, and will respond to calls involving people who are in distress or are in mental crisis. (Savannah Police Department via Facebook)
