Here are the top three stories in Savannah today:

  1. The Tybee Island Maritime Academy’s middle school band has received a personal invite from the rock band Journey to attend their Freedom Tour 2023 concert in Savannah. The band caught the attention of Journey after recording and posting a cover of their hit song "Don't Stop Believing" on social media, which reached the wife of founder and lead guitarist Neal Schon. A total of 35 students, parents, and teachers will attend the concert. Although the band will not be performing, music director Amanda Whitfield considers the invite to be a highlight of her career. 2. Savannah’s Community Health Advocate (CHA) program participants attended a leadership workshop on Feb. 4, led by author Wanda Lloyd and local storyteller Lillian Grant-Baptiste. The workshop, entitled “Listen. Speak. Advocate: Sharing Your Story for Health Equity,” focused on the importance of sharing one’s health story and listening to the stories of others. Lloyd started the session by teaching “deep listening” tactics and Grant-Baptiste emphasized the power of storytelling in promoting health equity. The event was presented by Healthy Savannah and the YMCA of Coastal Georgia. (Savannah Community Headlines)
  3. Actor Kirk Cameron is bringing his public library tour promoting his Christian children's book, "As You Grow," to Savannah on Thursday. Some libraries have declined hosting Cameron's tour due to the book's biblical themes. Cameron's event at the Bull Street Library will be held in a meeting room and not as a library program, and will feature a performance by country artist Coffey Anderson for a "patriotic sing-a-long."
