- The Savannah Interagency Diversity Council (SIDC) held its eighth annual "Traffick Jam" event on Saturday, which is organized to raise awareness about human trafficking in the community. SIDC chairman William Gettis said, "Savannah, being a large tourist city, having a large port — one of the largest ports in the country — being near one of the busiest interstates in the country, a lot of our citizens are not aware of what to look for." The conference's keynote speaker Kwami Adoboe-Herrera also shared his story as a victim of human trafficking. The essential takeaway of the event was: If you see something, say something. (WSAV-TV)
- The Bluffton Police Department will host a community forum on Tuesday to discuss policing practices in the wake of the police killing of a Black man in Memphis earlier this month. Bluffton Chief Joe Babkiewicz said, "The murder of 29-year-old Tyre Nichols in Memphis, Tennessee, is on the hearts and minds of Americans everywhere. When people hurt, people need to be heard. It's a basic tenet of any relationship, especially the relationships which we depend on to keep each other safe." The forum will allow the community to discuss police brutality and its effect on the community with the department and other officials. The event will be held at the Rotary Community Center at 6 p.m. (Subscription: Hilton Head Island Packet)
- A new marina restaurant will be coming to Savannah’s southside at Bell’s Landing, where a fire destroyed the old restaurant and marina in February 2006. The city council voted last week to rezone the property to a maritime business district.Conceptual plans for the new marina restaurant display rooftop dining and boat dock spaces. (WTOC)
