Here are the top three stories in Savannah today:
- The Georgia Department of Transportation recently voted to move forward with a plan to replace the cables on the Talmadge Bridge. The move will help raise the structure more easily for passing cargo ship traffic. The project will cost around $150 million to $175 million and will not close the bridge during construction. - An end-of-year review by Lensa to see what U.S. states had the most job opportunities ranked Georgia eighth overall. Overall, Georgia had more than 1.7 million unique job listings, coming in behind Ohio and above New Jersey. California, Texas, and Florida ranked in the top three, respectively. (Savannah CEO)
- The Lunar New Year kicked off across the world on Sunday, and celebrations were in full swing in Savannah. Members of the Savannah Chinese Baptist Church hosted a New Year celebration that included traditional food and various performances. “We will remember the days where we were back home and we would eat the food that we are most familiar with our favorite dishes. This is a time of gathering, just like Christmas or Thanksgiving in our American culture,” an organizer said. (WTOC)
