Cobb County Manhunt For Suspect In Police Shooting Ongoing

People should avoid the area as a search for the shooting suspect is ongoing, Cobb and Smyrna police said.

SMYRNA, GA — A suspect remains at large after a police shooting Thursday in the 2600 block of Spring Road, Smyrna Police said.

Police said the shooting happened around 9:30 a.m. Officers were responding to a holdup alarm call at a Spring Road check cashing business when an encounter with a male suspect led to the shooting.

The man ran from the scene, and police said around noon that they were still searching for the suspect.

Cobb County Police told Patch its SWAT team and Smyrna officers are actively investigating in the area near Cumberland Boulevard. Smyrna Police asked people to avoid the area as several roads remain closed.

Shortly after 11 a.m., Cobb Police said the investigation was near a gas station and was causing heavy delays and blocked traffic on Cobb Parkway, Spring and Cumberland Parkway.

No officers were injured in the shooting, Cobb Police said.

"We are working closely with the Smyrna Police Department to ensure public safety and to gather all necessary details. As this is an active investigation, we are limited in the information we can provide at this time. We appreciate the public’s patience and cooperation as we work to resolve this situation. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available," police said in a statement.

Smyrna Police told Patch that the incident remains fluid and involves response from multiple police agencies.

Police advised anyone who may have noticed suspicious activity in the area to call 911.
