Braves Announce Restaurants Coming Near New Cobb Stadium

The mixed-use development next to SunTrust Park was also given an official name during a Wednesday press conference held by the team.

Although the Atlanta Braves are still one season away from playing games at their new ballpark in Cobb County, the team has announced the first of several restaurants that will serve fans and visitors on non-game days inside a mixed-use development being built next to the park.

Braves Chairman and CEO Terry McGuirk announced Wednesday that the first tenants of “The Battery Atlanta” would be Superica, Cru Food and Wine Bar, The Tomahawk Taproom, Antico Pizza, and a high-end steakhouse concept that hasn’t been named yet. McGuirk added that there will be many more restaurants coming to occupy the 90,000 sq. ft. of restaurant space planned at the development, the Marietta Daily Journal says.

McGuirk said The Battery would have 550 apartments, no condominiums, and parking for every retail and restaurant establishment on the premises. The name of the development has a double meaning, McGuirk explained; The Battery is a nod to the pitcher and catcher who work together during a game, but the Braves also hope the development will energize the surrounding area.

Everything seems to be coming up roses for the business side of the baseball team; in September, Cobb County commissioners voted 5-0 to approve the costs and transactions necessary to close the $376.6 million Cobb-Marietta Coliseum Project Series 2014 Bonds which are financing the construction of SunTrust Park.

In June, the Georgia Supreme Court ruled that the bond validation could proceed as normal after some opponents of the financing deal sued the county claiming the government could not put itself so far in debt without putting the issue before voters in a referendum.
