Here are the top three stories in Smyrna-Vinings today:

  1. The Cobb County Police Department reports that an officer shot a suspect who was fleeing from a traffic stop on Friday. The incident occurred in the 1200 block of Winchester Parkway. The suspect was taken to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital for treatment. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation will be conducting an investigation into the shooting. (Smyrna-Vinings Patch)
  2. A Cobb County Transit bus caught on fire Thursday evening near I-75 SB. Atlanta firefighters responded to the incident at Howell Mill Road Northside Drive. The responding crews were able to fully extinguish the blaze. Thankfully, the bus was unoccupied at the time of the incident and no one was injured. (WSBTV)
  3. Hurricane Ian will likely miss Cobb County's Truist Park. Baseball fans have been concerned that the hurricane would impact the highly-anticipated Braves vs Mets series. There is a slight chance of rain this weekend but not enough to prevent the series from being played. (NY Post)
