'Civil War in Cobb County' Lecture

Saturday, November 14, 11:00 a.m. at the Lewis A. Ray Library in Smyrna.

Residents of Cobb County witnessed several wartime occurrences and suffered through Federal occupation in 1864. Civil War historian Michael K. Shaffer will share insights on some of the county’s more prominent Civil War actions, including the formation of Camp McDonald in Big Shanty, the Great Locomotive Chase, the Battle of Kennesaw Mountain, the development of the Chattahoochee River Line, and the burning of Marietta prior to Major General William T. Sherman launching his March to the Sea in November 1864. Cost: Free - Free admission, donations appreciated.
