Cobb County BOE Moves Forward With Construction of Replacement School

The district voted towards building a replacement school for Harmony Leland Elementary School and Clay Elementary School.

The Cobb County School District took the first step Aug. 25 toward building a replacement school for Harmony Leland Elementary School and Clay Elementary School. The Cobb County Board of Education voted to approve the architect for the new school.

The Board authorized Superintendent Chris Ragsdale to award the contract to Cunningham Forehand Mathews and Moore Architects of Atlanta. The cost of the design fees will be paid from the general funds previously committed by the Board for the new school building in the South Cobb area. The budget is $1.5 million, which is five percent of estimated construction budget. Construction of the replacement school is contingent on the approval of SPLOST V.

“We are sure the students, faculty and parents of both Clay Elementary and Harmony Leland Elementary are excited about the Board approving today the appointment of the architect for a proposed new school,” said Nick Parker, SPLOST senior executive director. “This is the first of several steps toward the creation of a new school; however, as stated in the approval, the architect will not commence planning and design unless and until SPLOST V passes in March of 2017.”
