Here are the top three stories today in Smyrna-Vinings:

  1. Federal funds will be distributed to community services in the county soon. The Cobb County Board of Commissioners will distribute $98 million in American Rescue Plan Act money to community services around the county, which include nonprofits, businesses, and public agencies. The money is intended to fund social services, workforce development, public safety, and infrastructure projects. (Subscription: The Atlanta Journal-Constitution)
  2. Cobb County just approved a design contract for the Holly Springs Road project. On Tuesday, the Cobb Board of Commissioners unanimously voted to approve the hiring of a traffic engineering firm to start an improvement project in the Holly Springs Road corridor. The project is considered to be Tier 1 importance and will use SPLOST funds “to make operational and safety improvements at intersections and corridors throughout the county.” (East Cobb News)
  3. A special event for kids aged 5-9 is coming to Smyrna Public Library. If your elementary-aged reader loves building things, they're welcome to join Mayor Derek Norton at the Smyrna Library on Thursday, Feb. 16 at 4:30 p.m. to build a town out of paper!   • Yesterday was 4-H Day at the Capitol. Wheeler High School student Venya Gunjal struck a chord with attendees as the President of the GA 4-H Foundation. During the event, she spoke on behalf of all 152,000 Georgia 4-H youth. (Cobb County Schools via Facebook)
