Cobb Planning Commissioner Dies From COVID-19
Cobb County Planning Commissioner Judy Williams died from COVID-19, officials said Tuesday.
COBB COUNTY, GA — Cobb County Planning Commissioner Judy Williams died from COVID-19, Cobb governing board officials said.
Williams, appointed to her role by Cobb County Commissioner JoAnn Birrell,represented District 3 on the planning commission, according to the Marietta Daily Journal. The Cobb County Board of Commissioners opened its Tuesday meeting with a moment of silence for Williams and others who died due to the coronavirus.
"She was my rock — I depended on Judy so much," Birrell said during the meeting. "She was a great friend outside of zoning, but she was definitely a huge support to me."

Williams was also a lifetime resident of Cobb County, her obituary said. She graduated from Marietta High in 1963 and joined county government in 1972. She retired in 2000, but joined the planning commission in 2001 and the board of zoning appeals in 2002.
Williams' funeral will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at the chapel of the Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home. Her funeral will be livestreamed and in-person attendance will be limited to family, according to the MDJ.
