Cobb Schools ACT Scores Outpace State, Nation

Cobb Schools' average composite ACT score was 1.7 points higher than the GA average, and four points higher than the national average.

COBB COUNTY, GA — Cobb County School District's 2021 graduating class returned higher average scores on the ACT than their peers in Georgia and across the nation, the district announced.

Cobb high-school seniors had an average composite ACT score of 24.3 out of a maximum possible 36 points — 1.7 points higher than the Georgia average of 22.6, and four points higher than the national average of 20.3.

The class of 2021 also had a composite score 1.1 points higher than in 2020.

“Our team is committed to providing a world-class education to all Cobb students and living up to our district’s reputation for student success that exceeds state and national averages. As a result of our team’s work, Cobb students have been able to overcome the pandemic-related obstacles and repeatedly achieve success at a higher rate than their state and national peers," Superintendent Chris Ragsdale said in a news release.

The composite ACT score is based on curriculum-based tests in English, math, reading and science. Cobb students scored an average of 24 in English, 23.7 in math, 25.1 in reading and 23.9 in science, which were all above the state and national averages, too.

Walton and Wheeler high schools had the highest scores at 27.6 and 27.1, respectively. Eight schools increased their ACT scores by at least one point compared to 2020: Wheeler, Sprayberry, Pebblebrook, South Cobb, Kennesaw Mountain, Campbell and North Cobb high schools.

A total of 15 students at six Cobb high schools scored perfect composite scores of 36.0. Seven students attended Walton High School; four students graduated from Wheeler High School; and two from Lassiter High School. Pope High School and Sprayberry High School each had one student post a perfect ACT score.
