Cobb Woman Missing After Boarding Bus To New York: Authorities

Police say 55-year-old Theresa Mae Murphy of Cobb County boarded a bus to New York on Sept. 9. She never made it.

SMYRNA, GA -- Police in Georgia and New York are asking the public's help in finding a Cobb County woman who was supposed to board a bus bound for New York City. Authorities said that 55-year-old Theresa Mae Murphy got on a "Wanda Coach" bus in Atlanta on Sept. 9.

While en route to the Big Apple, Murphy spoke with a relative while in South Carolina, police said. (SIGN UP: Get Patch's Daily Newsletter and Real Time News Alerts. Or, if you have an iPhone, download the free Patch app.)

The bus made it to New York City on Sept. 10 but Murphy did not, Cobb police spokesman Dana Pierce said in a news release. "It cannot be confirmed that Ms. Murphy was on it, nor has she communicated with her
family since," he said.

The bus made stops in multiple cities along the way, including Charlotte and Durham, N.C., and Richmond, Va. Finding Murphy is of the essence because she suffers from kidney failure and requires dialysis, police said.
