Cobb County Police Department officials said an elderly man in an electric wheelchair was struck by a car and killed Friday afternoon.
COBB COUNTY, GA — An elderly man from Smyrna was struck by a car and killed Friday, a spokesperson for the Cobb County Police Department said.
Cobb County police said 84-year-old Joyce Ann Piatt of Mableton was driving her 2008 Honda CR-V east on Cooper Lake Road around 1 p.m. Friday. An unidentified pedestrian was operating an electric wheelchair southbound across Cooper Lake Road from the northern sidewalk.
The pedestrian — who police identified Monday morning as James Kenneth Wise, 81, of Smyrna — drove his wheelchair onto Cooper Lake Road and Piatt accidentally hit him with her car. Wise was not in a crosswalk at the time.
