Cartersville Dump Truck Driver Dies In Smyrna Crash

Police say his dump truck bed crashed into a bridge and overturned onto its left side Wednesday.

SMYRNA, GA — A 44-year-old Cartersville man died Wednesday morning after his dump truck bed crashed into a train bridge on Atlanta Road and overturned, Cobb County Police said.

Police identified the man as Jason Maddox. Police said the crash happened around 4:45 a.m. north of the Fulton County line.

Maddox was driving a white 2005 Mack 700 dump truck north on Atlanta Road, where the bed of the truck was fully extended in the upright position, police said.

The dump bed crashed into the train bridge over Atlanta Road, causing the truck to overturn onto its left side, police said. Maddox was ejected and died at the scene, police said.

Cobb County Police's Selective Traffic Enforcement Program is continuing to investigate the crash.
