Former Smyrna Police Chief Stanley Hook Passes Away
Stanley Hook served 23 years as the city's chief of police.

SMYRNA, GA — Former Smyrna Chief Of Police Stanley died Tuesday at the age of 80. Hook started with the Smyrna Police Department in December 1989 after retiring from the New York State Police, then again retiring from the Smyrna Police Department in December 2012.
"Chief Hook was a visionary leader for his time," the Smyrna police department said. "Chief Hook was instrumental in helping modernize the police department’s computer technology program and the purchasing of modern crime fighting tools. Chief Hook also began the process of hiring diversity at the police department and the implementation of the community policing model which is still in practice today under the current leadership of Chief David Lee.
"During Chief Hook 23 years as the Chief of Police for the Smyrna, GA Police Department he made lots of friends. Chief was an avid golfer and a great family man. The men and women of the Smyrna Police Department are deeply saddened and impacted by the passing of Chief Hook."

Hook is survived by his wife, Patti, his two daughters Joanne and Amanda, and several other family members.
At this time, the family has requested privacy during their time of bereavement.

Visitation will be at Carmichael’s Funeral Home, 2950 King Street, on Sunday from 2-6 pm. The memorial service will be at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 4300 King Springs Road, at 10 am.
