Funeral Arrangements Set For Cobb Firefighter

Stacey Boulware, 44, suffered a heart attack on Monday after responding to two calls back to back, officials say.

SMYRNA, GA — Funeral services for the 44-year-old Cobb County firefighter who died on the job Monday have been scheduled for Saturday in Powder Springs. Stacey Boulware collapsed at Station 5 in Vinings after responding to two back-to-back calls, fire officials say.

Visitation will be held from 1-3 p.m. Saturday at Burnt Hickory Baptist Church, with Chaplain Michael Bell officiating. A memorial service is set for 3 p.m. at the church, at 5145 Due West Rd. in Powder Springs.

Fire departments that wish to have apparatus and staff vehicles in a procession for Boulware should be in place at Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home by 11:30 am for a noon departure, county officials said. Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home is located at 3940 Macland Rd. in Powder Springs. Boulware was transported to Kennestone Hospital, where she later died., after she collapsed.

On Tuesday, the Cobb County Medical Examiner's Office said preliminary autopsy results showed she had suffered a heart attack. A final determination of the cause of death is pending additional studies, which could show other medical diagnoses that contributed to her death.

Boulware, who became a firefighter in 1999, was a veteran of the Cobb County Fire Hazardous Materials Team, serving at several different fire stations during her career. In 2015, she received the Firehouse Magazine Heroism Award and the Cobb County Fire & Emergency Services Firefighter Cross for her work rescuing a trapped person from a large fire.

A native of Kansas City, Mo., Boulware also was an accomplished and decorated tennis player, competing in local USTA and ALTA leagues.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting contributions in Boulware's memory be made out the Cobb Fire Employees' Benevolent Fund at 1595 County Services Parkway, Marietta, GA 30008.

"Please keep the family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time," Cobb County said in a news release.
