- A historic building in Smyrna was demolished and unhappy residents turned up at Monday night's city council meeting to voice their disapproval. The building was named Aunt Fanny's Cabin and at one time was a restaurant named after Fanny Williams, a civil rights advocate who worked for the cabin owners. The cabin was controversial as many cited "images that were derogatory to black people," according to Fox 5 News. Members of the Coalition to Save Aunt Fanny's Cabin asked to be part of the city council committee dedicated to finding a way to honor Fanny Williams. (Fox 5)
- On Tuesday, the U.S. Department of Education announced that $3.9 billion in loan debt will be wiped out for students who attended ITT Technical Institute from January 2005 through its closure in September 2016. ITT had four different locations throughout metro Atlanta. According to federal officials, the school misled students about helping graduates find high-paying jobs and also used deceptive recruiting tactics. (Atlanta Journal-Constitution)
- The Dollar General in Smyrna has been cited for dangerous working conditions by the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) with proposed penalties of $1,292,783. These stores will either pay the fines, contest the citation, or request a meeting with OSHA. (Atlanta Journal-Consitution)
