Over the past month, the Student Council at King Springs Elementary, located in Smyrna, recently worked on a special project to commemorate the 44th Earth Day on April 22nd.

With support from guidance counselors, Mrs. Hatcher and Mrs. Hartzheim, the Student Council kicked off a school-wide project to decorate paper bags in an effort to raise awareness of recycling. The Kroger on South Cobb Drive generously donated over 800 bags for this project.

Every King Springs student was given a paper bag and asked to create a design which conveyed a message of recycling. STEM teacher, Mrs. Shoustarian, worked with members of the student council to deliver a lesson on recycling to all KSE students. Then, with the help of art teacher, Mrs. Mullins, students in grades K through 6 completed their “bag” projects.

On April 9th, student council members visited Kroger to express thanks for the store’s support. The students also took with them a few of the bag projects to be placed on display at the store. The projects along with a banner announcing the project was on display through the month of April.
