Helen Cocks Russell, 81, of Smyrna passed away July 18, 2015. A memorial service will be held at St. Paul UMC at 244 Kurtz Road in Marietta on Saturday, July 25 at 11 AM. Helen was preceded in death by her parents, David Cocks Sr. & Helen Wayt Cocks and brother, David Cocks Jr. She is survived by her son, Brent S. (Katharine) Russell of Brookhaven; 2 daughters, Kathy R. Cox of Suwanee and Carrie R. (Bobby) Whiten of Marietta; 2 grandchildren, Elizabeth & Tyler; 1 great grandchild, Ava; her beloved dog April; 1 brother, Phillip (Jeannie) Cocks of Charlottesville, VA; sister-in-law Wanda Cocks; numerous nieces & nephews and of course her long time dancing friends. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Cobb County Humane Society.

Helen was born and raised in Louisville, KY. As a teenager she played field hockey and enjoyed her favorite park, Big Rock. She attended Centre College in Danville, KY where she was a sweetheart of Sigma Chi. Cobb County became her home in 1966. Her favorite sites were the big chicken, the Marietta square, the Village Green and its duck pond, Six Flags White Water Park, and the covered bridge in Cobb County.

She was a proud associate member of Douglasville’s Gold Wing Road Rider’s Association Chapter known as B2. She loved to help them raise money for different charities. She was an avid supporter of the American Red Cross. She made regular blood donations, even receiving pins for donating over a gallon of her blood. But all in all, dancing was her first love. The next time you hear thunder it is probably Helen dancing in the clouds, yee-haw!
