In Loving Memory of Nellie Clifford Poston, 97

Nellie Clifford Poston, age 97 of Marietta, passed away Friday, November 13, 2015. A memorial service will be held 4 pm Monday, November 16 in the sanctuary of the First Baptist Church of Smyrna.

Mrs. Poston was preceded in death by her husband, Autice Milburn Poston, Sr., brothers and sisters Leonard Gibson, Hallie Mae Massey, and Jewel Nunn and her Daughter-In-Law Vicki Poston. She is survived by her sons Milburn (Marian) Poston of Atlanta, Bill Poston of Marietta, daughter Marian (Ben) Jones of Atlanta, grandchildren Tracy (Rob) Noble, Ginger (Tripp) Cuttino, Clif (Angela) Poston, Chris (Melissa) Poston, Brent (Pam) Jones, and 12 Great Grandchildren.

Clifford was born October 11, 1918 in River Junction, Florida. She was named after her father Clifton Gibson who died when she was 9 days old. Growing up during the Great Depression helped shape the woman she became. She raised 3 teenaagers after the death of her husband Red in 1963. She also was left to help run the family business. She was a major force behind the creation of Traton Homes. She was famous for keeping track of the books in her columnar notebook. One bank teller was told by his boss “If you number is close to Mrs. Poston’s, go with hers. She’s right”. She continued to work up until her death.

She most importantly was wonderful Mother, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother. She will be dearly missed by all of her family who loved her tremendously.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Smyrna. Carmichael Funeral Home in Smyrna is in charge of arrangements.
