SMYRNA, GA -- A man was sentenced Thursday to 12 years behind bars for beating his girlfriend so bad in her Smyrna apartment that she suffered a broken rib.

“Calvin Jones attacked someone who said she loved him, and whom he said he loved. Calvin Jones strangled the victim with his bare hands. Calvin Jones beat, punched and kicked the victim, bruising her face and arm and breaking a rib,” Assistant District Attorney Matt Carlton said in a news release. “Calvin Jones then tried to persuade the victim to lie for him, so he could escape the consequences of his actions, all the while insinuating it was the victim’s fault.”

Cobb Superior Court Judge Ann Harris also ordered Jones to stay away from the victim.
