Man Sentenced to 30 Years For Attacking Woman In Cobb Apartment

Prosecutors: Golden Marcel Roberson showed up at woman's Vinings apartment with a 9mm handgun and found her asleep with another man.

VININGS, GA -- An Atlanta man was sentenced this week to 30 years for an overnight attack on a woman he was romantically involved, the Cobb County District Attorney's Office announced Friday.

Golden Marcel Roberson, 31, was convicted Thursday of multiple assault and battery charges, along with possession of a firearm during commission of a felony, giving false information to a law enforcement officer, forgery and other crimes.

Cobb investigators said after being beaten, the victim hid from Roberson for several months before resuming a relationship with him.

About 3 a.m. on Nov. 8, 2015, Roberson showed up at the woman’s Vinings apartment with a 9mm handgun and found her asleep with another man. He told the man to leave then dragged the victim from her bed, "while beating and strangling her," the DA's office says.

"He told her to call her mother because it was the last time she would hear her mother’s voice, and he also put the gun in the woman’s mouth. He confined her to a bedroom while uniformed officers attempted to make contact with anyone inside the apartment. When officers ultimately made entry, Roberson was found hiding in a corner of the bedroom closet," a news release from the DA says.

While being taken into custody, Cobb County deputies found 3 grams of cocaine in Roberson’s pants.

“Mr. Roberson’s actions that night were terrorizing and horrific,” said Assistant DA Julianna Peterson, who prosecuted the case, said in a statement. “He is a danger not only to these victims, but to the entire community.”
Roberson was sentenced to 30 years, with 18 years behind bars and the rest on probation.

The defendant told Cobb Superior Court Judge Ann Harris told he only slapped the victim five times and still cared for her.

“You nearly cared about her to the grave,” Harris told him. “Frankly, you’ll have to do that in another county, because I’m banishing you from Cobb County. I wish you’d never come here from Brookhaven or Carolina or wherever.”
