Public Invited to Comment on Cumberland CID Plans

Meetings will take place through Nov. 18 as part of developing a master plan for the area that includes the Powers Ferry corridor.

Several meetings inviting public feedback on proposed enhancements to the Cumberland Community Improvement District will be held over the next two weeks, including this Wednesday and Thursday.

The Cumberland CID -- which includes the Powers Ferry Road corridor of East Cobb below Terrell Mill Road -- will be working with the Cobb County Community Development Agency to develop a master plan.

The Cumberland CID, now 25 years old, was Georgia's first CID and is a public-private assessment district, created by business leaders seeking better highway access to the area.

Since then, additional improvements have been added, including transit, streetscapes, walking and biking trails and general community planning.

The area totals 5.5 square miles, and commercial property owners in the district pay an additional five mills of property taxes to the county, which in turn uses the money to start the planning for improvements.

The projects are completed as other county, state and federal funding becomes available. Cumberland CID officials estimate nearly $500 million has been invested in improvements in the district.

The Cumberland CID master plan will guide further development in what's called the “Cumberland Core Area.” Here's more, according to a meeting notice provided by the county:

"This planning effort will create the basis to encourage development appropriate to complement and connect the existing employment, retail and residential locations within the core.

"Cobb County and the CCID strives to continue Cumberland’s progression as the number one destination for all of our stakeholders and residents to live, work and play. We are asking for your feedback, your input and your ideas. Cobb County and the CID are developing a plan to map out the way growth will look in the heart of the Cumberland community in the coming years."

All of the meetings will take place at the Cobb Chamber of Commerce, 240 Interstate North Parkway (at the corner of Windy Ridge Parkway):
