1. A staple Smyrna Italian restaurant is closing its doors after four decades. Scalini's Italian Restaurant, whose claim to fame is that its eggplant parmesan helped send thousands past their due date go into labor, wrote on its Facebook page Monday that it will no longer operate at its Cobb Parkway location in Smyrna. The reason for the closure has not been announced. (11Alive)
2. Registration is open for the 2022 Greater Atlanta Heart Walk. The event is expected to bring together more than 7,500 Greater Atlanta residents to raise heart health awareness and funds for the American Heart Association's 2022 Greater Atlanta Heart Walk. The event will take place on Saturday, Sep. 10, at 8:30 a.m. at the Battery Atlanta. (MetroAtlantaCEO)
3. In nearby Sandy Springs, students were surprised with free gifts from an office supply company. On Tuesday, Office Depot employees surprised students at Lake Forest Elementary School with free backpacks full of school supplies to each of the school’s 800 students as part of the company’s Start Proud! program, along with a $20 Office Depot gift card, thanks to support from Domtar Paper. While parents were in on the secret, students eagerly awaited the surprise, according to the school’s new principal Laryn Nelson. (CBS 46 News)
