Sexual Assault Alleged at Cobb Elementary School

The mother of the 7-year-old victim says teachers didn't know what was happening; authorities are withholding comments on the situation.

A Cobb County mother is furious after she says her 7-year-old daughter told her she had been sexually assaulted at school late last month.

The alleged incident occurred in a second grade classroom at Riverside Intermediate School in Mableton on Aug. 31; the student’s mother tells WSB-TV that two teachers were in the classroom at the time of the incident, adding that the teachers only noticed what was going on near the end of the incident. A school detective called the mother on Aug. 31 and alerted her to the incident, she said. The mother says the school has not allowed the child to transfer following the incident.

Police and school officials are not commenting on the incident. Cobb police spokeswoman Alicia Chilton told Patch that the report of the incident cannot be released “due to the juvenile information in the report.” Cobb schools spokeswoman Lauretta Hannon told Patch that “Cobb County Schools cannot offer any comment” on the incident as it is the subject of an ongoing investigation.
