Smyrna Health Clinic Looking to Upgrade

The facility will spend up to $1.1 million in SPLOST funds to get a new building on the same side of the street as the county's bus stops.

Cobb and Douglas Public Health is scouting for new locations for the Smyrna Health Clinic and plans to use $1.1 million in SPLOST funds to acquire a new building for the facility.

The main problem with the current facility on South Cobb Drive is the location of the building the clinic is housed in; patients have to walk across five lanes of traffic to get to the clinic due to the bus stop being on the other side of the road, Cobb and Douglas Public Health executive Virgil Moon told the Marietta Daily Journal. Moon added that a location closer to the Smyrna Village Green would be ideal.

2016 SPLOST funds were specifically earmarked for the purpose of finding a new home for the Smyrna Health Clinic, the MDJ says. The Cobb County Board of Commissioners has given Cobb and Douglas Health the go-ahead to use the $1.1 million in 2016 SPLOST funds once they become available for use next year.
