SMYRNA, GA — Less than 24 hours after sending an alert to the public and the media about an attempted kidnapping, Smyrna police have made an arrest in the case. Gary Harling Jr., of Atlanta, has been charged with two counts of attempted kidnapping and false statements. He is currently being held on a $50,000 bond at the Cobb jail.
Late Thursday, police released surveillance photos of a man who allegedly tried to kidnap two women last week outside a Smyrna Walgreen's. Police said the incident happened around 9 pm at 2670 Cobb Parkway. The van was described as a Nissan cargo van, and the suspect was described as a black male with a light skin complexion, full beard and wearing glasses. He was last seen wearing a light color baseball cap, black tee shirt, and black shorts with a white and yellow Nike logo on the left side of the shorts. He also has a full-length tattoo on his left arm.
"The Smyrna police department is very thankful for the media and community’s assistance in this matter," police said early Friday afternoon.
