Georgia is hosting its second annual sales tax holiday for WaterSense products such as showerheads and faucets beginning at 12:01 a.m. Friday, Oct. 4 through 11:59 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 6.

Consumers who purchase a variety of WaterSense-labeled products during the three-day event will be exempt from state and local sales taxes on those items. The products must cost $1,500 or less each and be purchased for noncommercial or personal use.  

In addition to saving money on the sales tax, residents who purchase a WaterSense-labeled toilet may qualify for a rebate. Visit the North Georgia Water website for details about which utilities offer rebates, either directly or through the Metro Water District.

Replacing an old toilet with a WaterSense-label will save more than two gallons a flush. Replacing a standard showerhead with a water-efficient one can save thousands of gallons of water a year.

“We use more water in our homes than anywhere else. Simple things like changing a showerhead or adding an aerator to an existing faucet can really make a difference, saving both water and money,” said Dallas Mayor Boyd Austin, chair of the Metropolitan North Georgia Water Planning District.
