Woman Confessed To Killing Girlfriend In Smyrna Motel Room: Cops

SMYRNA, GA — A Mississippi woman was arrested and charged with killing her girlfriend after she confessed to police, according to multiple news outlets.

Selena Caprice Kellum, 23, of Biloxi, Mississippi, is accused of shooting her girlfriend Shai'Khia Strong, 24, twice in a Smyrna motel room in what police describe as a domestic dispute, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.

Authorities said Kellum killed Strong in the afternoon of Dec. 22 at the InTown Suites Extended Stay Hotel in Smyrna. She left Strong in the room to die and drove to her sister's house in Biloxi before confessing to the Biloxi Police Department, the Marietta Daily Journal reported.

Kellum also admitted to changing her clothes, putting them in a backpack and storing it in a storage unit in Biloxi, as well as picking up the shell casings at the crime scene and throwing them out of her car on the way to Mississippi, according to the MDJ. Police recovered one shell casing at the scene.

She's also accused of stealing $324 from Strong's car, which police ended up finding in Kellum's car, according to the MDJ. Kellum confessed to the killing Dec. 23, and later that day police found Strong's body in the motel.

Kellum was taken into custody by Smyrna police Dec. 31 in Gulfport, Mississippi, the AJC reported, and booked into the Cobb County jail Tuesday, where she remains without bond.

She faces charges of felony murder, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, tampering with evidence and entering an automobile or other motor vehicle with intention to commit theft or felony, according to jail records.
