Cobb Department of Transportation's PEACH Roads Program was recently recognized by the Atlanta Regional Commission for its innovation and creative effort to make the Atlanta region a better place. The program was honored with the CREATE Award for Environmental Sustainability. This award proves Cobb County is committed to developing and implementing initiatives that help steward and protect our natural resources.
The PEACH (Preserving Environment and Community Heritage) Roads Program is the first of its kind in Georgia and was adopted by Cobb in 2010 to help integrate sustainable principles into transportation projects. It is a tool to evaluate design and operations proposals for any project meeting a $100,000 threshold and awards points based on many environmental elements. The program strives to minimize negative impacts to the environment and incorporate sustainable principles and innovations, including solar power and adaptive signal timing.
