In 2012, Cobb County is required to maintain its Comprehensive Plan per the Department of Community Affairs’ rules for the five-year update. The update includes the completion of a “Report of Accomplishments” and a new “2012 Short Term Work Program.” The Report of Accomplishments is a detailed assessment that outlines the status of items that were contained in the previous 2007 Short Term Work Program. It includes an identification of items as on-going, completed, underway, postpone or not completed. It provides the Board of Commissioners, the Planning Commission and the community-at-large with a status how Cobb County is implementing the Comprehensive Plan. This provides direct results and transparency. The new 2012 Short Term Work Program will outline new and on-going projects, policies and actions to continue implementation of the Comprehensive Plan.
The Community Development Planning Division has worked with various county departments to develop the revised work program to address the changing needs and priorities of the community over the next five years. The program has been developed in a fiscally-restrained model due to the current economic situation. The community is encouraged to learn more about the Comprehensive Plan update through a presentation that was delivered to the Board of Commissioners on May 21. It can be viewed online at TV-23. The draft that is proposed for submittal to the Department of Community Affairs is available for review and comment at http://comdev.cobbcountyga.gov/documents/CompPlan5YearUpdateDocDRAFT.pdf
