Funeral is Wednesday for College Student Kimberly Islas Killed in Crash

Marietta High School graduate Kimberly Islas, 21, was killed Saturday in wrong-way accident on South Cobb Drive.

VININGS, GA -- Funeral services for a college student killed in a wrong-way crash over the weekend will be Wednesday at Vinings Lake Church, Patch has learned.

F. L. Sims Funeral Home of Smyrna will be handling the arrangements for Kimberly Islas, 21, who was killed Saturday when her Honda was broadsided by a Ford Explorer on South Cobb Drive.

Police said Casey Hunter, 44, flew through a red light, heading south in a northbound lane. She has been charged with felony vehicular homicide and DUI, according to local media reports.

Pictures posted online by news outlets showed islas' car, which was destroyed in the crash. “The force of the impact was so great that our victim was ejected out of the (car),” Smyrna police spokesman Officer Louis Defense told WSB-TV.

A former co-worker said on social media that he had worked with Islas at a local Chick-Fil-A and she was "always joyful, thankful and pleasant to be around."

Islas was working two jobs and studying to become a nurse at Atlanta Metropolitan Tech, her family said. They told local media that Islas was coming from one of her jobs when the traffic accident occurred.

Islas graduated from Marietta High School and was originally from Mexico City, according to her Facebook profile.
