Obituary courtesy Gene Davis - White Columns Funeral Chapel:

Mary Geneva Thomason Woods, age 85, of Mableton passed away on Sunday, Oct. 27, at Wellstar Community Hospice/Tranquility in Austell.

She was born to William Ira Thomason and Susan Julia Ward Thomason on Aug. 18, 1928, in Elberton County, Rock Branch, Ga.

Geneva grew up on a farm and was a strong individual. She attended Rock Branch High School for 12 years without a single absence under the guidance of her mother.

After high school, she left the farm in Rock Branch and moved to Atlanta where she obtained her secretarial degree at Southern Business School. From there, she worked for O’Hanlon Reports Inc. for 14 years.

She was married to the love of her life, David Lee Woods, for 44 years until his passing in 2012. They were always seen together whether at home or at church. They shared their faith together as members of First Christian Church of Mableton and also as Supporters of Cobb Street Ministries.

Geneva was a proud mother and grandmother. She enjoyed children so much that her and David would babysit the children from church families. They will fondly remember her as "Ms. Geneva."

Mary Geneva Thomason Woods is preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, David Lee Woods. She is survived by her daughter, Julie and husband Charles Anthony “Tony” Byers of Mableton; stepdaughter, Linda Marie McDaniel and family of Phenix City, Ala.; granddaughter, Morgan Li Byers of Mableton; sisters-in-law, Beatrice Thomason of Rock Branch, Alma Myers of Orlando, Fla., Dora Lewis of Lansing, Mich., and Maxine Hoffman of Mason, Mich.; brothers-in-law, Melvin Woods of Big Rapids, Mich., and Ted Woods of Lansing, Mich.; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29, and again from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30, at White Columns Chapel in Mableton.
